Church Revival is evident within our cities and communities. Many Christians talk and some want prayer for church revival but with little change in our cities and in the lives of the people, both Christian and non-Christian. Church revival has manifested itself in some parts of the world because of revival prayer like the Fiji revival and the Appalachian Dawn revival.
What can we learn from church revival by prayer, observing the events and comparing them with what God tells us in the Bible? The first thing we learn from church revival is humility. The people of the Fiji nation and the community in the USA both came to the conclusion that there was nothing humanly possible that they could do that would produce church revival that would change the current depressing situation other than prayer.
When you reach the end of yourself and look beyond with prayer to God Who is able to produce church revival then the first step is in motion for revival in the land. A heart that says that we can do nothing good in our own strength and with prayer to God for the answer, will position themselves for a move of God and experience church revival in their community.
The next step is that we pray but before we delve into prayer we must know who is to pray so that we have church revival. God states in 2 Chronicles 7:14 that He wants His "people" to pray. God wanted the Israelites to pray for revival who were believers in him and followers of Him. Today's application would be the Christian church needs prayer for church revival.
Read: 2 Chronicles 7:14 "if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land."
Church revival: God wants 2 things when He says that He wants "My People" to pray. "My People" refers to the Israelites and the whole nation of Israel.
1. God wants the Israelites which are His own people to pray.
2. God wants the whole nation of Israel to pray for church revival. This last point is the most important for church revival because many churches have only a few people for prayer and not much change happens at all. It will take all Christians within the city to be praying if you desire true church revival according to the Bible. Why is this? God deals with cities as a whole more than He deals with individual churches within a city.
Church revival: Look at what Jesus said about this city. Mat 11:23 "And you, Capernaum, who are exalted to heaven, will be brought down to Hades; for if the mighty works which were done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day." A city is either blessed or under God's judgment with a curse. Jesus said Himself that He had other cities to preach the gospel in. Jesus did not say that He was called to a small group of people within the city. Jonah was sent to the city of Nineveh not to just a group of people in the city.
Cities maybe much larger now but that does not change the heart of God in wanting the whole city to be converted and living Holy lives. If you are only concerned about your own individual church within the city then you really do not have the heart of God. Church revival is the whole city having revival by prayer. This is why we as Christians need to pray for the whole city.
Church Revival happens when we take no shortcuts but do everything God's way. Little happens when a few people pray but much happens when everyone is in prayer.
Church Revival happens when Christians know the tricks of the devil. The devil wants division between the churches and this is why most cities do not reflect the character of God. When the people are ONE nothing can stop them. Read: Gen 11:6 And the LORD said, "Indeed the people are ONE and they all have one language, and this is what they begin to do; now nothing that they propose to do will be withheld from them."
When you need to change an entire city for God a few small prayer meetings going on in a few churches will not cut it. This is why God calls every Christian for prayer in their community in order for church revival to come about. Why is this necessary? The Bible states in: Lev 26:8 "Five of you shall chase a hundred, and a hundred of you shall put ten thousand to flight; your enemies shall fall by the sword before you." Numbers matter to God and our enemy when it comes to church revival.
Church revival: Who are we really fighting against? Are we fighting against the lost people in our cities who may be criminals? No! Our battle is a spiritual one. Eph 6:12 "For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places." In order to drive the real enemy out of our cities then we will need to do spiritual battle (revival prayer) with the largest number of believers within the city.
God wants every Christian in the city to come together for church revival prayer united under one banner to have Jesus Christ rule the city that they live in. Our prayer for church revival will not only be heard by God but the devil will be chased out when our whole army prays. This is one reason why the devil brings division in the church so that people will not come together for prayer. The devil knows that he will have to leave that city when all of the Christians unite for revival prayer.
The next step for church revival is to repent and confess our sins. This is addressed to Christians. Do not approach God with some pious attitude thinking that you are above sin because this is a hindrance to revival. Every Christian has things in their life that needs some form of correction. This is the condition of today's church. Read: Rev 3:17 "Because you say, 'I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing' and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked."
The last step and set of instructions in this verse of scripture pertaining to church revival is that we are to seek God's face (with prayer). We Christians are to seek God and no one else when it comes to anything in our lives. God is Holy and we need to seek God to be Holy like He is. If you do not have a desire to be holy like God then you will never want to see His face because a person who is ashamed of themselves will always have trouble looking someone in the face.
Church Revival: Envision cities with hardly any crime and mostly Christians living in it with everybody employed and hardly any sickness with peace, joy and love flowing within all residents.
Church revival: Image ten thousand Christians or 20 thousands Christians or 50 thousand Christians or even five hundred thousand Christians in prayer for their city until the Holy Spirit brings new life.
Organize citywide revival prayer in your community. Everyone does not have to assemble together in one place but each church can assemble at their own facility for church revival prayer on the same day. Pray for weeks and months however long it takes for church revival. Assemble a least once a week until church revival happens. Your prayer sacrifice is worth the blessings. Approach this task with faith. Remember the book of Esther when the whole nation of Israel was in prayer and fasted for 3 days and the King's decision was reversed.
Some people may think that it is impossible for All Christians to be in prayer at the same time in a large city but this kind of thinking is unbelief. God states in: 2 Chronicles 7:14 that He wanted the whole nation to pray and when God speaks to us about doing something then the thing is possible. God will not ask us to do something that He will not equip us for. If your city does not have church revival then you need to work on it because it is God's will for the city and the church to have revival. Assemble ALL Christians for prayer now! Bill Naugle Contact
